The Costa Blanca, on the Southeast coast of Spain, has around 170 miles of coastline and stretches from Valencia in the north to La Manga in the South, with Alicante roughly half way distant. The resort of Benidorm is famous for its family package holidays and this is around 35Km north of Alicante.
The countryside here varies from mountainous and rocky in the north of the Costa Blanca, to flat, but very fertile land in the south and inland. It is from this area that many of Spain's famous oranges come from, especially the province of Valencia in the northern part of the Costa Blanca.
The Costa Blanca Climate
The Costa Blanca has a great climate, with around 300 days of sunshine a year, an average temperature of 18 degrees and whilst people are freezing in -4 degrees in the UK, you can actually be sunbathing in December!
Fiestas
The Costa Blanca has numerous fiestas and whatever time of year, you will likely be able to find a fiesta occurring somewhere, be warned however that many shops close during fiesta days, so make sure you have stocked up on food and drink (although you will of course be able to eat and drink out).
Traditions
The Costa Blanca area of Spain has two traditional dances, the Jota Valenciana and the Jota Murcia, from Valencia and Murcia respectively. A jota is a dance performed individually or in pairs and has influenced many other forms of Spanish dance, including flamenco. Variations of this dance style are performed in countries such as the Phillippines.
